Abstract
On November 9th, 2023 at 5.30 pm José Roberto Boffino de A. Monteiro, Associate Professor at Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the University of São Paulo, Campus of São Carlos, Brazil, will give a seminar on "Rotor Speed and Position Estimation for the Control of Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Machines" in DEIB Alpha Room (Building 24).
The presentation focuses on surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous machines (SMPMSM), with high harmonic content in their back-EMF waveform, in medium and high speed operation. The considered machines are those that present a non-sinusoidal back-EMF waveform, including some trapezoidal back-EMF waveforms, which are the case of surface-mounted permanent magnet machines designed to have a trapezoidal or near trapezoidal back-EMF waveform. To achieve the best control performance, it is shown that a proper vectorial based machine model is applied in order to address the harmonic content of machine back-EMF, for such, the dqx transformation is applied. The central objective of the use of the dqx model is to cancel machine torque ripple, very present in this kind of machine, allowing more stability to the estimation algorithm. Two estimation algorithms are addressed: the first one is based on Kalman Filter for the estimation of back-EMF and the other algorithm uses a simple back-EMF estimator allied to a tracking-PLL.
Prof. José Roberto Boffino de A. Monteiro is currently an Associate Professor at Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the University of São Paulo, Campus of São Carlos, Brazil, since 2004. He received his bachelor in Electrical Engineering in 1994, his master degree in 1997 and his Ph.D. degree in 2002, all by the University of São Paulo. His main areas of research are electrical drives and design of permanent magnet synchronous machines, power electronics, control and embedded systems.
