UpTown - Via Pier Paolo Pasolini 3, Milano
NESLab of the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering - Politecnico di Milano develops technologies at the frontier of the Internet of Things, including their concrete application in real scenarios. An example of this activity is the recent collaboration with EuroMilano within the TEF Citcom.AI project.
Building parks with a diverse ecosystem and a gentle microclimate in every season contributes to the creation of areas that mitigate urban noise and pollution. One example is UpTown Park, a 30-hectare park on the outskirts of Milan, which isolates the residential area of Cascina Merlata from pollution and city noise. Preserving these green areas requires periodic maintenance interventions that can affect their ecosystem. To ensure that these interventions have a positive impact, it is mandatory to detect and monitor the park's bio-indicators, i.e. animal species such as birds, butterflies and dragonflies. The monitoring of these indicators is normally carried out by specialists through manual surveys of the species. NESLab has developed smart IoT sensors that, using AI, can monitor the presence and variation of bio-indicators 24 hours a day. These sensors have been installed in strategic locations within UpTown Park and will constantly provide valuable information about its biodiversity.
On Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Via Pier Paolo Pasolini 3, in the Milan UpTown area, it will be possible to learn more about the challenges faced in the creation and installation of the smart IoT sensors, to get to know the technologies used and to understand the importance of bio-indicators, their preferred habitats and the impact they have on the park.
Participation is free and no technical expertise is required.
