Abstract
On June 8th, 2023 at 2.15 pm Enrico Prati, Professor at Dipartimento di Fisica dell’Università degli Studi di Milano (UNIMI), will hold a seminar on "Quantum computer hardware, an introduction" in 5.03 Room (Building 5) Politecnico di Milano.
Quantum computers provide a new computational paradigm capable to overcome existing computational platforms. I review the key concepts at the basis of quantum computing, including the physical encoding of information the quantum speed up of quantum algorithms, the difference between physical and logical qubits, the goal of fault tolerant quantum computer. I explain the requirements to build a quantum computer, the different technologies satisfying such requirements, the computational architectures and their compatibility with the various technologies. Finally, I consider the current state of the art of silicon-based quantum computers.
