Project abstract
The project aims to develop control algorithms for new-generation electro-mechanical brakes. Electro-mechanical brakes make only use of electric motors, without any hydraulic system. These brakes have the fundamental property of being “by-wire”, namely the connection between the brake pedal and the wheel brakes is a data-transmission digital line, implemented on a standard time-triggered real-time high-speed BUS. Electro-mechanical brakes have huge potential advantages. The most important are the higher braking performance and the higher flexibility in the vehicle layout. Electro-mechanical by-wire brakes need the redesign of control strategies both locally (current and force inner loops) and globally (ABS, ESC, etc.). The use of electro-mechanical brake by-wire has made this project very innovative. The project is closed.
Project results
Control algorithms for the local control of the braking/camping force have been developed and tested. Development of an innovative ABS control algorithm, which is specific for this type of braking systems. Some algorithms for the accurate estimate of the vehicle speed (and, correspondingly, of the wheel slip) have been developed and tested.
