In 2020 alone, more than 800 millions people have used fitness apps: to stay healthy, to be fitter, to perform physical rehabilitation. No existing app, though, is able to automatically detect the specific functional exercise that is being performed, count the number of its repetitions or compute specific performance metrics on its execution.

Intelligent Athlete (IA) developed an innovative technological pipeline, based on advanced Machine Learning algorithms, which can automatically identify activity periods, classify the functional exercises within a given set, count their repetitions and evaluate the quality of the execution, showing a feedback to the user. All these information are obtained from simple inertial measurements, accelerations and angular speeds, provided by the athlete's smartwatch, while feedback is given through the associated smartphone.
