From 2004 to 2006 he has been a Research Assistant at the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informazione of Politecnico di Milano, teaching Control System Technologies and Engineering to Computer Science Engineering students.
From 2006 to 2014 he has been an Assistant Professor in Automatic Control at the School of Industrial Engineering of Politecnico di Milano.
From 2015 to 2023 he has been Associate Professor in Automatic Control at the School of Industrial and Information Engineering of Politecnico di Milano.
From 2024 he has been Full Professor in Automatic Control at the School of Industrial and Information Engineering of Politecnico di Milano.
Prof. Bascetta taught different courses at BSc, MSc and PhD level in the areas of robotics and automatic control. He currently teaches Control of Mobile Robots at the MSc of the Automation and Control Engineering programme, and Control Systems for Smart Agriculture at the MSc of the Agricultural Engineering programme, at Politecnico di Milano.
Since 2021, Prof. Bascetta is Coordinator of the Study Programme in Agricultural Engineering at Politecnico di Milano.
He took part in the writing of four European research projects in the field of robotics (ICT-230902-ROSETTA, Robot control for Skilled ExecuTion of Tasks in natural interaction with humans; based on Autonomy, cumulative knowledge and learning; ICT-231143-ECHORD, European Clearing House for Open Robotics Development; ICT-601116-ECHORD++, The European Coordination Hub for Open Robotics Development; ICT-767642-L4MS, Smart logistics for manufacturing) that have been funded, and to the research activities of a few national research projects. He was the person in charge for Politecnico di Milano in the FP7 four years long European Integrating Project ECHORD as coordinator of the experiment FIDELIO FIxtureless DEburring of wheeLs by human demonstratIOn, and of the FP7 four years long European Integrating Project ECHORD++ as coordinator of the experiment GRAPE Ground Robot for vineyArd monitoring and ProtEction.
His research interests include robotics, modelling, planning, and control of autonomous vehicles, and all the problems related to motion control in general.
Since 2004 he is a reviewer of many international conferences and journals in the field of robotics, mechatronics and automatic control. Furthermore, he received the Best Referee Award for the Journal of Process Control for the year 2008.
Since 2014 he has been Associate Editor for different IEEE conferences on robotics and automation (ICIA, RCAR, ROBIO, MESAS).
In 2014 and 2015 he participated to the ICRA Conference Editorial Board as Associate Editor.
From 2015 to 2018 he was Associate Editor of the IEEE Robotics & Automation Letters.
Since 2018 he is Associate Editor of the Control Engineering Practice.
From 2021 to 2023 he was Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering.
Prof. Bascetta is a senior member of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society since 2017.
