His research interests lie in the area of optimization, with primary applications in data mining, machine learning, telecom networks, and energy systems. His current main research focus is on optimization models and methods for interpretable machine learning.
He is the recipient of two IBM Faculty Awards (2005 and 2011) and was an IFORS plenary speaker at CLAIO 2018. He has served on the editorial boards of International Transactions in Operational Research and Neural Processing Letters, and has been a member of the AIRO Springer Series editorial board since 2017. He has contributed to the program committees of several international conferences, including ESA, INOC, ISCO, and SEA.
