He received his Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering (1995) and his Ph.D. degree in Telecommunication Engineering (2000) at Politecnico di Milano (Italy). From 1995 until February 2006 he has been researcher at CoreCom (research consortium supported by Pirelli and Politecnico di Milano in Milan, Italy), where he achieved the position of Head of the Optical Networking Laboratory. On March 2006 he joined the Department of Electronics and Information at Politecnico di Milano as Assistant Professor. At the School of Information Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, he teaches the following courses: from 2004 to 2013 “Telecommunication Networks and Internet” (undergrads), from 2013 “Internet protocols” (undergrads) and “Switching and routing” (grads). He furthermore has kept courses for employees and executives of the companies: Pirelli, Telecom Italia, Italtel Nokia Siemens Networks, Sirti, Metroweb, Cefriel, Alcatel. He has participated and participates to several joint research projects with industrial partners (Pirelli, Telecom Italia, Fastweb, RFI). He has been involved in the IST-FP6 and FP7 European Projects: MUPBED, NOBEL2, e-Photon/ONe+, BONE, STRONGEST. He is currently involved in the ISTFP7 IRSES Project MobileCloud. He is author or co-author of more than 70 papers published in proceedings of international conferences and 25 papers published in international journals on networking and optical networks. He has been cited more than 1000 times and his h-index is 14 (Google Scholar data, Sept. 2013). He is co-inventor of 6 patents with extensions in various Countries, including Europe and the U.S. His current main areas of interest are: routing in multidomain networks, semitransparent optical networks, optical interconnections and backplane, software defined networks. He is TPC chair of NOC 2014 and TPC member for several international conferences He is member of the IEEE Communications Society since 1998. In 2008 he has been elevated to IEEE Senior Member.
