Full Professor of Electronics at Politecnico di Milano, where he is currently teaching “Electron Devices“ and “Analog Circuit Design”.

In 1985 he received the “Laurea” degree (cum laude) in Nuclear Engineering. From 1987 to 1992 he was Researcher of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). In 1992 he was appointed Associate Professor of Electronics at Politecnico di Milano, Full Professor since 2000.

In his research activity he investigated the physics and technology of SPADs (Single Photon Avalanche Diodes), he contributed to modeling of carrier transport in scaled transistors and to reliability studies of non-volatile memory technologies. In 2009 he was elected IEEE Fellow “for contributions to modeling of single-photon avalanche-diodes and non-volatile memory devices”. In the field of RF circuit design, he contributed to analysis and optimization of low noise fully integrated oscillators and to design of frequency synthesizers. He is coauthor of the book “Integrated Frequency Synthesizers for Wireless Systems”, Cambridge University Press (2007).

He was Visiting Scientist at the AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, NJ (1989-90), IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY (1999), Data Storage Institute, Singapore (2011). He has been serving in conference committees: IEEE-IEDM (2001-04), Symposium on VLSI Technology (2005-08), NVMTS (2012-19), ESSDERC (2005/2010-19). Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Electron Devices Society (2009-14). He has co-authored over 350 papers in international journals and conferences.

He served as Department Chair of the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informazione (2006-08), he was member of the Academic Senate (2007-09), member of the Board of “Fondazione Politecnico” (2011-15), Scientific Director of PoliFab – Facility for Micro and Nanotechnologies (2013-18), President of the Academic Society, Società Italiana di Elettronica (2015-18), member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Department of Physical Sciences and Technologies of Matter – CNR (2016-19). Since 2014, he has been a member of the Academy of Sciences - Accademia di Scienze e Lettere - Istituto Lombardo.
