Person details

Giovanni Costa was born in Poggiardo (LE), Italy, on August 25, 1995. He received the B.Sc. degree in Telecommunication Engineering from the Università di Pisa (UniPi), Pisa, Italy, in July 2019, and the M.Sc. degree from the Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy, in December 2021. In the same year, he joined TRE Altamira as an InSAR Processing Operator, where he worked until January 2026, gaining extensive expertise in SAR interferometry and operational processing.
In November 2022, he started his Ph.D. in Information Technology at the Politecnico di Milano, which he received with honors (cum laude) in February 2026. Since October 2023, he has been a guest scientist at the Microwaves and Radar Institute, German Aerospace Center (DLR), Weßling, Germany, where he has been developing an explainable deep learning framework for SAR amplitude-coherent change detection.
He is currently a postdoctoral researcher with the Radar Imaging & Digital Earth Laboratory (RIDE Lab) at the Politecnico di Milano. His research interests include SAR-based change detection methods, PolInSAR inversion techniques for soil moisture estimation, and signal processing methods for spaceborne synthetic aperture radar interferometry.
