Research Line:
  • Electronic Circuit Design
Andrea Bonfanti was born in Besana Brianza (Milan), Italy, in 1972. He received the Master Degree in Electronics Engineering and the Ph.D. in Electronics and Communications from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in 1999 and 2003, respectively. From 2003 to 2006 he was temporary researcher at the Electronics Department of Politecnico di Milano involved in the design of multi-GHz L-C tuned oscillators and Phased Locked Loops (PLLs). In 2006 he joined the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), Genova, where he designed integrated circuits in the framework of the Brain Machine Interface (BMI) project.
In 2009 he has been appointed Assistant Professor, and from 2012 Associate Professor at the Politecnico di Milano where he currently holds the course of “Digital Integrated Circuit Design” for the Master Degree. From 2003 he has been consultant for different semiconductor companies (ST-Microelectronics, Accent, Bell Labs), for Center of Excellence for Research, Innovation, and Industrial Laboratories (CEFRIEL Partnership), Milan, Italy, and Newronika (Cologno Monzese). He actually leads the research group inside the ARPLab design center at the Politecnico di Milano focused on high-speed A-to-D converters for 5G wireless applications.
His research activity is also focused on the design of mixed-signal integrated circuits for biomedical applications (detection and acquisition of neural signals in human patients affected by Parkinsons’s diseases and small laboratory animals) and for MEMS inertial sensors (magnetometers, gyroscopes, and accelerometers), and the study of phase noise in LC-tuned oscillators for multi-GHz applications.
Andrea Bonfanti is author/coauthor of about 70 papers published in journal or presented at international conferences and 4 educational books on analog electronics circuit design.
