The first cycle of the MEDTEC School, the international programme in Medicine and Surgery and in Biomedical Engineering organised by Humanitas University and Politecnico di Milano has successfully concluded. The programme integrates and enhances the skills of medical doctors with those typical of engineers.
The new graduates are the first in Europe to obtain the double degree in Medicine and Surgery, awarded by Humanitas University, and in Biomedical Engineering awarded by Politecnico di Milano.
The graduation ceremony was held at Humanitas University in the presence of the Rector of the Politecnico di Milano, Donatella Sciuto, and the Rector of Humanitas University, Luigi Maria Terracciano.
Launched in 2019 as an innovative programme, MEDTEC School - coordinated by Maria Laura Costantino, professor of Biomedical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, and Maurizio Cecconi, professor of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at Humanitas University - has 389 enrolled students to date.
The link between medical and engineering education is embedded throughout the MEDTEC School curriculum, alternating periods of study at Humanitas University and the Politecnico di Milano. In the first three years, in fact, classes are held in alternating semesters at the two locations, while in the following three years there are courses and modules held by Politecnico professors at Humanitas University.
The closing of the first MEDTEC cycle was the occasion to launch PRIME - PhD in Personalized caRe and Innovation in Medicine and Engineering - an international interdisciplinary PhD programme promoted by Politecnico di Milano and Humanitas University that trains researchers capable of developing innovative solutions for Personalised Medicine.
