Prof. Alessandra Pedrocchi and research assistant Vanja Miskovic from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering – Politecnico di Milano are among the founders of the European Interdisciplinary Society for AI in Cancer Research (ESAC), established in Milan on December 19, 2024. This new society aims to enhance the role of artificial intelligence in cancer research and patient care, fostering more effective diagnoses, innovative treatments, and improved quality of life.

ESAC brings together researchers, clinicians, and AI experts to tackle the challenges of cancer through scientific and multidisciplinary collaborations. Integrating AI into research requires contributions from oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, physicists, bioinformaticians, and engineers.

The association aims to promote joint initiatives to develop and validate advanced models that bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and clinical applications.

Another key objective of ESAC is to create a strategic network with academic institutions, EU projects, and industry leaders to amplify AI’s impact in oncology and optimize resources by avoiding duplication of efforts. Additionally, the society will offer specialized training programs, including conferences, workshops, and summer schools, to support skill development and the dissemination of specialized knowledge.

Through a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach, ESAC aims to build an interconnected scientific community, promoting the effective use of artificial intelligence for increasingly precise and personalized cancer therapies across Europe.
