Project abstract

ARISE aims to simplify, reduce the cost of, and expand industrial human-robot interaction (HRI) deployments across Europe by introducing and demonstrating the concept of AgileHRI. The project envisions a near future aligned with the principles of Industry 5.0, emphasizing resilient, sustainable, and human-centric work environments.

In this future, companies recognize industrial HRI not as a cost, but as a strategic investment to achieve both short- and long-term objectives. Human-centric approaches will surpass traditional technology-driven methods, placing people at the centre while technology serves their needs. Industrial HRI will become a transformative asset, enabling seamless human-robot collaboration on complex tasks, with the flexibility to operate efficiently across shifts of any length.

To realize this vision, ARISE will:

  • Address key challenges facing today’s industrial applications.
  • Develop human-centric solutions, tools, and software modules that push the state-of-the-art in industrial HRI.
  • Deploy and validate industrial HRI at scale across four testing and experimentation facilities and more than 25 workplaces in Europe (FSTP Projects).

ARISE leverages cutting-edge, open-source European technologies, advancing them to position Europe at the global forefront of industrial HRI. The project focuses on achieving four core objectives:

  • Efficiency and cost-effectiveness: Enhance the development, deployment, and maintenance of HRI solutions.
  • Innovation through open-source modules: Develop reusable components that advance industrial HRI beyond the current state-of-the-art.
  • Openness and agility: Demonstrate these as essential enablers of sustainable, high-value HRI solutions.
  • Impact and sustainability: Build a critical mass of stakeholders and establish strong connections with the ADRA ecosystem to ensure long-term project benefits.

Through these efforts, ARISE will accelerate the adoption of industrial HRI in Europe, fostering resilient, human-centric workplaces and positioning the continent as a global leader in the field.
