The Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering - Politecnico di Milano is participating in the AVATAR-SC project – Voice Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, and Telemonitoring for the Reduction of Rehospitalizations in Patients with Heart Failure – through a research group coordinated by Mirco Pezzoli, a researcher at the Image and Sound Processing Lab.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Angelo De Gasperis Cardiothoracic Foundation ETS, ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda, University of Insubria, and Politecnico di Milano, was selected for funding under the InnovaWelfare call – Technological and Digital Acceleration of Welfare Services, promoted by the Cariplo Foundation.
AVATAR-SC aims to develop an innovative home telemonitoring system based on the use of an interactive digital avatar and the integration of advanced artificial intelligence technologies. The system is designed to analyse the voice and language of patients with heart failure in order to detect early signs of clinical deterioration and trigger timely and personalized interventions, complementing traditional clinical data.
The primary goal of the project is to optimize the follow-up of chronic patients, reduce the risk of rehospitalization, and contribute to improving quality of life.
Particular attention is given to the psycho-cognitive dimension of the patient’s experience. The interface system is conceived not only as a data collection tool but also as a relational device, intended to promote psychological well-being and support empathetic interaction between the patient and the technology.
The project is based on the integration of computational linguistics, machine learning, and human-computer interaction, representing one of the most advanced expressions of Italian research in the field of digital healthcare.
Among the most significant objectives is the development of predictive tools based on voice analysis, capable of providing early clinical insights and effectively supporting daily medical practice.
Thanks to the joint contribution of scientific, clinical, and technological institutions of proven excellence, and with the support of the Cariplo Foundation, AVATAR-SC aims to become a reference model for the application of artificial intelligence in predictive medicine and the personalized management of chronic diseases.
