The PoliMOVE Autonomous Racing Team, led by Prof. Sergio Matteo Savaresi from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, Politecnico di Milano, took part in the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League, organised by ASPIRE at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The competition represents an important novelty in the experimentation of high-performance autonomous vehicles because for the first time the participating teams competed in a multi-vehicle race on a road course other than the classic oval.
During the three-day race, PoliMOVE, with its EVA car, distinguished itself by achieving the best overall (and unbeaten) time of 1:57:854, only 12% more than the one set by former F1 pilot Daniil Kvjat.
The PoliMOVE Autonomous Racing Team is composed of Rodrigo Senofieni (Deputy Team Leader), Paolo Fusco, Paola Hasalliu (Project Manager), Luca Cattaneo, Riccardo Donati, Riccardo Poli, Riccardo Vianello, Matteo Pierini, Giovanni Ghirardini, Simone Gabrielli, Alessandro Riva, Andrea Borsatto and Federico Sarrocco.
Prof. Matteo Corno and Prof. Giulio Panzani from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, Politecnico di Milano also participated in the race as technical advisors, and Prof. Brandon Dixon from the University of Alabama, who has been part of PoliMOVE since 2021, provided the team with invaluable help.
Special thanks go to Movyon, with whom PoliMOVE has been collaborating for years on smart road projects, in particular Benedetto Carambia and Roberta Loiacono, whose support was priceless, and Whysol Investments, in particular Alberto Bitetto, who enthusiastically endorsed the team in its first experience at the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League.
