The collaboration agreement signed between the world leader in the semiconductor sector and Politecnico di Milano leads to the creation of a cutting-edge laboratory. This will allow the Politecnico to strengthen the research lines on the design of high-performance analogue circuits, mixed-signal and integrated circuits in the millimeter-wave frequency, in order to overcome the current limits. This in turn will help Infineon bring innovations and new products to the market. Applications will range from mobility to communications, improving energy efficiency, costs and performance. For example, autonomous driving requires high-performance integrated circuits to address the increasing complexity in detecting the environment surrounding the vehicle and processing information on board. This will be one of the main research areas of the new laboratory. Another area of interest will be the 5G, which will be able to provide Internet in real time, a prerequisite for autonomous driving or industry 4.0.
"The Politecnico di Milano is committed to achieving excellence in research and is proud to collaborate with a leader in the field of semiconductors such as Infineon Technologies. This partnership will allow both of them to develop strategic lines of research to make the future simpler and "greener" - said Donatella Sciuto, executive vice rector of Politecnico di Milano.
"The miniaturized electronic components of the partnership are the" heart and brain" of the tools we use every day and will play a decisive role in future technological innovations - added Andrea Lacaita, Full Professor at DEIB - the joint research laboratory will give the opportunity to grow highly specialized professionals that will be required by the industry in the near future”.
