The poster ‘Protecting Safety-Critical Systems: A Software Approach,’ presented by Davide Baroffio, a student in the Ph.D. programme in Information Technology at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, Politecnico di Milano, won the ‘Best Student Poster Award’ at the 2nd CINI Summer School on High Performance Computing and Emerging Technologies, which took place June 17-21 at the University of Trento.

The poster describes Baroffio’s work at HEAPLab under the guidance of Professors Federico Reghenzani and William Fornaciari in the area of safety-critical systems research. In particular, it illustrates the operation of ASPIS, a tool that automatically adds mechanisms to a software in order to protect it against hardware failures. This solution cuts production costs and makes it easier to develop safety-critical systems in terms of weight, power consumption and temperature requirements.
