Measurement and certification services

The DEIB Labs host a wide range of equipment for the measurement and the certification of industrial products.
The services offered to companies include, among others:

“Radiation Detectors and Low-Noise Electronics” Lab:
  • analysis of chemical composition of materials with XRF techniques
  • design, test and measurement of radiation detectors

“Single-Photon Detectors and Applications” Lab
:
  • design, test and characterization of single-photon detectors for the visible and near-infrared wavelength range
  • design and development of optoelectronics instrumentation based on single-photon and imaging detectors for applications in the field of biology, medicine, physics, information and communication technology, etc.
  • non-invasive optical test of integrated circuits

“Electronic systems” Lab
:
  • bonding of electronic devices on silicon and organic materials
  • chip gluing in nitrogen atmosphere
  • verification and integrity control of devices and wafers
  • development of printed circuits on multilayer FR4 epoxy glass laminated sheets and Teflon coated sheets

“Analog integrated circuit design” Lab
:
  • design, simulation, manufacturing (through external foundries) and experimental characterization of CMOS and BiCMOS mixed signal Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC’s)
  • design and use of instrumentation in order to access to the electronic properties of devices at the nanoscale
  • design and test of integrated circuits for interaction with biological systems

“Electron Devices” Lab
:
  • analytical and experimental studies of elemental and compound semiconductor devices (Si, SiC, GaN, GaAs, CdTe, CdZnTe) and organic devices
  • on chip and on wafer electron device characterization

Electric drives, power electronics and energy storage systems Lab:
  • electrical tests on materials
  • torque-speed characterization of electric motors
  • functional and efficiency tests on electronic power converters
  • characterization tests of storage systems (charge-discharge cycles, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, thermal stress)

"Measurements" Lab
:
  • characterization of optical instrumentation
  • study and development of measurement sensors for custom applications
  • design and development of electro-optical prototypes and instruments
  • development of data acquisition systems
  • design and characterization of low-noise laser sources

"High precision electrical measurements" Lab:
  • metrological verification of digital and analog multimeters
  • metrological verification of standard generators (calibrators, standard resistors)
  • thermo-hygrographs and thermo-hygrometers calibration
  • measurements of electrical materials properties
  • power and Energy measurements

Photonic Devices Lab
  • characterization of integrated optical waveguides in any technology: attenuation, group index, dispersion, coupling efficiency, birefringence, PDL, PMD, etc
  • spectral, temporal and coherent characterization of integrated optical passive devices, modulators and active optical devices
  • characterization and testing of high-complexity telecom, datacom and biophotonic devices with locking and control circuits
  • wavelengths from 1200 to 1700 nm; Signals up to 10 Gbit/s and 100 GBaud/s

Automatic control Laboratory
:
  • experimental verification of control techniques for discrete event systems
  • measurement of capacity, state-of-charge and ageing of Lithium batteries
  • experimental verification of motion control algorithms
