The three laboratories working on Robotics at DEIB (AIRLab, MERLIN, and NEARLab) are hosted in a space of over 500 sqm, named POLIMI Leonardo Robotics Labs. Their competences cover many of the core technologies involved in Robotics (Automation, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Human-Robot Interaction) as well as most of the application fields (Industrial robotics, Medical robotics, Mobile robotics, Social robotics, Agricultural robotics).
The facility hosts tens of robots (including a da Vinci research kit, several industrial arms, autonomous vehicles (on and off road) and self-produced robots), a 3D Motion Capture system covering a 100 sqm area, 3D printers, mechanical and electronic workshops, several sensors including 3D Lidars, laser scanners, 3D cameras, hyperspectral cameras, eye-trackers, and physiological signal acquisition systems.
Activities at Leonardo Robotics Labs involve directly 10 faculty members, about 25 PhD students, 3 PhD Executives, 2 Post-Docs, and about 60 Master students a year from the Industrial and Information Engineering School and the Design School of Politecnico.
