Project abstract
The 4DDS (4D Drone Swarms) project, developed in collaboration with I.D.S. Ingegneria dei Sistemi, Fincantieri NexTech, and the University of Pisa, was conceived to develop and validate enabling technologies for multi-domain unmanned systems, including aerial, ground, surface, and underwater platforms. Particular emphasis was placed on cooperation among heterogeneous assets and on advanced mission management through a centralized command and control system.
In this framework, the Department's research group contributed, on the one hand, to the development of advanced control techniques, trajectory planning, and experimental validation for autonomous aerial vehicles, both as single agents and organized in swarms; on the other hand, to the development of control, planning, and perception methods for autonomous surface vehicles, both in the maritime domain and in the ground domain.
Co-funded by the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy within the framework of the PNRR Innovation Agreements, the project enabled the consolidation of a coherent set of technologies and architectures with promising industrial developments.
