Fabio Dercole is Associate Professor (habilitation to full since 2018) of Systems and Control Theory at the Department of Electronics, Information, and Bioengineering of Politecnico di Milano, Italy. He received the five-year honors degree and the Ph.D. degree in Information Technology from the Politecnico di Milano in 1999 and 2003, respectively. His research interests are within the broad area of complex systems, with particular focus on nonlinear dynamics, networks of interconnected systems, agent-based systems, and on the tools for the sensitivity and parametric analysis and for the characterization of patterns and collective behaviors. He is author of several scientific papers in high-impact international journals, covering both methodological aspects and applications in a wide spectrum of fields, including computer and control engineering, biology, ecology and evolution, economics, and social sciences. F.D. has been visiting scientist in several institutes, including the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, Austria, the Department of Mathematics, Utrecht University, The Netherlands, the Center for Applied Mathematics, Cornell University, NY, USA, the Department of Computer Science, Concordia University, Quebec, Canada, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Helsinki University, Finland, and the Biology Department, Ecole Normale Supérieure, France. He was awarded the 2003 "Chorafas Prize", for his Ph.D. dissertation on evolutionary dynamics, and the 2008 "Ricercatissimi Prize" by Regione Lombardia, Italy, for his book Analysis of Evolutionary Processes (with S. Rinaldi), published by Princeton University Press. From 2010 to 2015, F.D. has been PI of a 5-years research grant (national call "FIRB Futuro in ricerca") with the project "Modeling and Analysis of Innovation and Competition Processes". In 2021, he has been elected President of the Italian Society for Chaos and Complexity.
