Prof. Federica Arrigoni and researchers Alberto Maria Metelli and Micol Spitale, from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering at Politecnico di Milano, have been appointed ELLIS Scholars.
ELLIS – European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems is a pan-European network of excellence in artificial intelligence. Its mission is to strengthen Europe’s long-term international leadership in AI by connecting leading researchers in the field and fostering a distributed, multi-site research laboratory dedicated to AI.
Starting in February 2027, ELLIS will lead the pilot project for the European Distributed AI Laboratory, funded by RAISE, the virtual research institute for artificial intelligence established by the European Commission.
These new appointments add to those previously awarded to Prof. Cesare Alippi, Prof. Nicola Gatti, and Prof. Marcello Restelli as ELLIS Fellows, and to researcher Alberto Marchesi as an ELLIS Scholar.
With these new recognitions, Politecnico di Milano now has a total of seven ELLIS Fellows and ELLIS Scholars. The ELLIS Milan Unit – which brings together Politecnico di Milano, the University of Milan, the University of Milano-Bicocca, and Bocconi University – now includes 17 ELLIS Fellows and ELLIS Scholars.
