The Photonic Devices research group of the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering at Politecnico di Milano, coordinated by Prof. Andrea Melloni and Prof. Francesco Morichetti, is a partner in PIXEurope, the fifth Pilot Line initiative launched under the European Chips Act. The initiative aims to accelerate the development of photonic integrated circuit technologies for high-speed computing, communications, quantum information systems and other advanced applications.

With the support of the I3N group, led by Prof. Marco Sampietro and Francesco Zanetto, and PoliFab, Politecnico di Milano’s micro- and nano-technology centre, the Photonic Devices group will contribute to the development of a silicon carbide photonic platform, advanced monitoring and control techniques for dynamically programmable photonic circuits, and wafer-scale functional testing methods.

Italy is represented in PIXEurope by two complementary research institutions: Politecnico di Milano and Fondazione Bruno Kessler.
