The AIDA – Artificial Intelligence Driving Autonomous research group presented a new experiment in the field of autonomous urban mobility in Darfo Boario Terme: Sharing for Caring, a project created with the aim of developing a service dedicated to elderly people or individuals with vulnerabilities, in small-scale urban contexts.
The test involved an electric Fiat 500, equipped with the autonomous driving technology developed by the AIDA team, which drove fully autonomously through the city center streets, simulating an on-demand transport service between places of everyday use, such as clinics, pharmacies, or supermarkets.
The vehicle, specifically chosen for its accessible configuration, also made an intermediate stop to welcome a passenger on board, demonstrating the concreteness of the model in a real-use scenario.
Sharing for Caring addresses a concrete challenge: ensuring autonomy for the most vulnerable segments of the population, in areas where traditional solutions are often unsustainable or inefficient. Through a highly applied approach, attentive to real needs, the project shows how autonomous driving can evolve from an experimental technology into a social tool capable of creating value for the community.
This initiative confirms the AIDA group’s commitment to pursuing a vision of autonomous mobility that is not only advanced from a technical standpoint, but also deeply connected to issues of inclusion, accessibility, and local impact.
