Starting from April 1, 2025, the new structured catalogue of services offered by TEF-Health (Testing and Experimentation Facilities for Health AI and Robotics) is officially available. TEF-Health is the European hub dedicated to the experimentation of artificial intelligence technologies in the healthcare sector. The catalogue, accessible through a dedicated online portal, gathers a range of services provided by a network of partner organizations, including Politecnico di Milano, with the goal of facilitating market access for reliable and safe AI and robotics solutions.
SMEs and start-ups that benefit from State aid can access these services under preferential conditions. The offering includes access to physical and virtual infrastructures for testing and validation activities, availability of health data, and support for clinical trials. It also includes consultancy services for the development of effective business plans and for positioning AI solutions on the market, as well as dedicated support in managing ethical and regulatory aspects, which are essential to ensure compliance with the strict standards required in the healthcare field.
Politecnico di Milano plays an active role in the initiative by offering 16 services: 2 delivered in physical laboratories, 3 focused on the creation and assessment of virtual databases, and 11 consultancy-based services supporting the development and adoption of innovative technological solutions.
TEF-Health is funded with a total investment of 60 million euros, 50% of which is provided by the European Commission, with the remaining half co-financed by Member States and participating entities. The project involves 52 public and private partners across 9 European countries, including universities, hospitals, research centres, certification bodies, and standardization organizations.
The project is one of the key tools envisioned by the AI Act, the first European regulation on artificial intelligence, and aims to ensure that the adoption of AI in healthcare takes place in compliance with high standards of quality, safety, and ethics.
Launched in January 2023 and active until December 2027, TEF-Health is set to continue its operations beyond this timeframe, establishing itself as a European reference point for clinical AI innovation.
