Starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, the online degree program in Computer Science & Engineering from Politecnico di Milano will be available in Sondrio. The new educational offering will be hosted by the Azienda di Promozione e Formazione della Valtellina and will provide a learning experience fully equivalent—in terms of content, faculty, and costs—to that offered at the university’s main campus in Milan. The initiative aims to expand the educational and cultural opportunities in the region, providing a concrete alternative for young people who wish to pursue university studies without the need to relocate—an increasingly expensive necessity due to the rising costs of housing and living in recent years.
The program will be delivered in a hybrid format, combining in-person and remote learning, designed to offer maximum flexibility while maintaining high educational standards. It is a three-year bachelor’s degree, fully equivalent in title and value to the one awarded at the Milan campus. This hybrid model has already been successfully implemented by Politecnico di Milano in the cities of Arezzo and Rome, and is currently available exclusively for the bachelor's degree in Computer Science & Engineering. However, since many of the courses offered in the first three years are shared across multiple engineering programs, switching to a different specialization or accessing master’s degrees in related fields is relatively straightforward—especially considering that the first year and a half is largely uniform across all engineering tracks.
Students currently in the fourth and fifth years of high school can already register for the admission test required for entry into engineering programs. Just like in Milan, applicants interested in enrolling at the Sondrio location must pass the minimum threshold to be admitted. During registration, candidates may also indicate their preference for the Valtellina-based site, where a set number of places will be available.
