The PoliMOVE team, coordinated by Prof. Sergio Matteo Savaresi from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano, won the Indy Autonomous Challenge held on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at the Monza Autodrome.
This was the first edition of the autonomous race car competition organized outside the United States, as well as the first in which the vehicles competed on a non-oval circuit.
Due to a failure of the main car that occurred the week before the race, the Politecnico di Milano team participated in the time trial with a backup car, a Dallara AV-21 never before used in a competition. Nonetheless, thanks to the versatility of the AI-driver AS.CAR.I and the support of sponsors MOVYON and Fluentis, the vehicle managed to achieve a lap time of 2:16:44 during the morning session and 2:05:87 in the afternoon session, thus getting first place.
The event represents not only a historic victory for the PoliMOVE team but also an important step forward in the development of autonomous driving technology towards an increasingly safe and sustainable mobility.
