The kick-off meeting of the European project on sustainable fishery SEAwise will be held online from October 4th to October 8th, 2021. A group of researchers of Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria, coordinated by Prof. Paco Melià, will participate in the project.
The SEAwise project, funded by the European Union as part of the Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, aims to increase the benefits of fishery while reducing the impact on ecosystems in a context characterized by climate change.
The four-year project – the results of which will be made available to European decision makers – will evaluate alternative fisheries management policies in a holistic and integrated perspective, based on the concept of a socio-ecological system.
In particular, the project will focus on the impact of fisheries management measures on indicators related to the Common Fisheries Policies (CFP), on the ecological aspects related to fisheries of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), on the European Strategy for Biodiversity (EBS) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including the need to reduce carbon emissions, minimize waste and increase the cohesion of coastal communities.
