Team PoliMOVE, led by Prof. Sergio Savaresi, has been awarded 100.000 dollars for winning first place in the Indy Autonomous Challenge Simulation Race, that took place Wednesday July 30th, 2021 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The video of the event is available at this link.
Simulation races, organized by Ansys, represent a critical first component for the teams as they develop the artificial intelligence software necessary to compete with their Dallara AV-21 racecar in the Indy Autonomous Challenge race, currently scheduled for October 23rd, 2021.
More than 500 undergraduate and graduate students, PhDs and mentors who excel in AI software registered for the IAC, representing 40 universities in 11 countries. Of the initial 30 teams competing, 16 were admitted to the Simulation Race. The competition was very tough and only 4 cars, after the qualifying heats and the final, completed the race without being disqualified or getting off track.
The participation of the PoliMOVE Team in the Indy Autonomous Challenge and the extraordinary achievements obtained so far are the result of the support of e-Novia, who endorses the team as main sponsor, Fluentis and Movyon, who participate in the project as supporting sponsors. PoliMOVE is also partnered with the Crimson Autonomous Racing Team of the University of Alabama.
The Indy Autonomous Challenge, organized by Energy Systems Network and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, is a 1.5 million dollar prize competition among universities to compete in the world’s first autonomous race event.
