EXSCALATE4CoV (E4C) project - the most powerful supercomputing platform in the world
July 16th, 2020
Abstract
The activities of the Exscalate4COV task force on High Performance Computing - the public-private consortium led by Dompé Farmaceutici and supported by the European Horizon 2020 program for research and innovation - are coordinated by the Politecnico di Milano under the guidance of prof. Cristina Silvano and prof. Gianluca Palermo.
At present the task force can count on the two most powerful supercomputers in Europe. According to the TOP500 ranking of the fastest supercomputers in the world, announced on 22 June 2020 at the ICS High Performance virtual conference, the two fastest supercomputers in Europe are installed in Italy: the new HPC5 system at the energy company Eni and the Marconi system- 100 at the CINECA Italian supercomputing center.
Exscalate4CoV has used the skills and resources of the European supercomputing centers installed at Eni, CINECA, Barcelona Supercomputing Center and FZ Jülich in recent months to simulate the interactions between the proteins of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and the molecules of potential therapeutic drugs, in a race against time to identify a therapy to effectively fight the virus.
