The Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering at Politecnico di Milano (DEIB) is participating in the European WBGPilotLine project through a research group coordinated by Prof. Gerardo Malavena, together with Prof. Alessandro Sottocornola Spinelli and Prof. Christian Monzio Compagnoni.
The Wide-Bandgap (WBG) Pilot Line is one of the five pilot lines launched under the Chips for Europe initiative, a key pillar of the European Chips Act. The project aims to establish an advanced technological infrastructure for the development and industrialisation of wide-bandgap semiconductors, strategic materials for next-generation power and high-frequency electronics.
Politecnico di Milano participates as an affiliated entity of the National Inter-University Consortium for Nanoelectronics (IUNET), which brings together expertise from several Italian universities in the field of advanced electronic devices.
DEIB's contribution focuses on the experimental characterization and modeling of silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) power devices, with particular emphasis on their fundamental physics, electrical performance, and reliability.
The activities specifically include the development of measurement methodologies to investigate degradation mechanisms and device behavior under electrical stress. The results will contribute to the optimization of the technologies developed within the Pilot Line.
