Michael Patrini, a Master’s student in Telecommunications Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, won third place in the SD Express Student Projects Competition, an international contest organized by the SD Association to encourage innovation among university students in the use of high-performance memory technologies, such as microSD Express.
The competition aims to explore advanced applications in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, augmented reality, robotics, and other emerging technologies.
Michael Patrini was awarded for the project “AI-Powered Edge Storage for Smart Cameras Using microSD Express Toward Smarter, Safer Crosswalks”, developed under the supervision of Prof. Stefano Bregni. The project leverages artificial intelligence to enhance pedestrian safety through smart cameras, using microSD Express as the primary storage medium.
Projects were evaluated based on criteria including innovative use of microSD Express, application of advanced technologies such as AI, machine learning, AR/VR, robotics, or gaming, overall functionality, value and impact, as well as creativity and clarity of implementation. All teams used an Nvidia Jetson Orin Nano development board with microSD Express as the main storage device.
