At the Piacenza-San Damiano Airport, the AIDA project team, led by Prof. Sergio Matteo Savaresi from the Department of Electronics, Information, and Bioengineering – Politecnico di Milano, achieved the speed record for mass-produced vehicles equipped with autonomous driving technology, reaching a top speed of 285 km/h.

The tests allowed the algorithms to be evaluated in extreme situations, which is necessary to ensure the system's reliability even in everyday driving scenarios. A Maserati MC20 rose to the challenge, demonstrating unparalleled precision and stability at high speeds, without any human intervention. This milestone builds on the expertise of the PoliMOVE Autonomous Racing Team, which previously set the absolute speed record for an autonomous car, clocking 309 km/h with an Indy Light car on NASA’s Cape Canaveral track.

The initiative was made possible through the support of MOST – Centro Nazionale per la Mobilità Sostenibile, emphasizing the critical role of research in driving forward innovative and sustainable mobility solutions.
