The PoliMOVE-MSU team, coordinated by Prof. Sergio Matteo Savaresi from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering – Politecnico di Milano with the support of Prof. Daniel Morris from Michigan State University, won the passing competition of the 2024 Indy Autonomous Challenge, reaching a speed of 180 mph, or approximately 289 kilometres per hour.

The competition took place on September 6, 2024 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Indy Autonomous Challenge is a competition in which autonomous racing  vehicles, driven by artificial intelligence, compete on high-speed tracks. University teams from around the world participate, developing autonomous driving algorithms to tackle extreme technical challenges. The event aims to promote innovation in autonomous mobility by challenging the limits of artificial intelligence in car racing.

The PoliMOVE-MSU team competed with a Dallara AV-24 – the official car of the Indy Autonomous Challenge – equipped with hardware and control systems that enable automation and artificial intelligence applications programmed by team members.
