Prof. Andrea Aliverti, faculty member at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of Politecnico di Milano, has been invited to deliver the Christie Lecture at McGill University in Montréal, Canada.
The lecture, entitled “Measuring breathing: from the lab to real life”, will explore the evolution of respiratory assessment, from early laboratory studies on respiratory mechanics to modern portable and wearable technologies for monitoring respiratory function in everyday life. It will highlight advances in sensors, biomedical instrumentation, and digital health that have enabled continuous breathing monitoring, with a particular focus on respiratory measurements during physical exercise and their applications in sport, rehabilitation, and health assessment.
The Christie Lectures, established in memory of Dr. Ronald Christie, a McGill University researcher and author of pioneering studies on respiratory mechanics in emphysema and mitral stenosis, are reserved for scholars who have made outstanding contributions to the field of respiratory medicine.
The invitation represents an important international recognition of Prof. Aliverti’s scientific work and of Politecnico di Milano’s contribution to research in bioengineering applied to physiology and respiratory medicine.
