Federica Filippini, who earned her PhD in Information Technology from the Politecnico di Milano in February 2024, has been selected as a finalist for the Informatics Europe Best Dissertation Award.

On October 27, 2025, she took part in a panel discussion organized as part of the Professional Development Workshop for Early Career Researchers during the Informatics Europe Education & Careers Symposium in Rennes. This recognition highlights her outstanding research achievements, dedication, and scientific maturity.

In her doctoral dissertation, supervised by Prof. Danilo Ardagna from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, Filippini explored how to enhance the efficiency of Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning systems operating across Cloud and Edge computing environments. As Artificial Intelligence applications increasingly support sectors such as healthcare and industry, managing vast amounts of data and diverse computational resources has become a key challenge. Filippini proposed innovative methods to optimize the design and operation of these systems, making them more adaptive, cost-effective, and responsive. She also developed models to better predict system performance, validating her approaches through extensive experiments that demonstrated their practical impact.
