The start-up project INSIGHT won first prize in the Life Sciences and MedTech category during the finals of the 2024 edition of Startcup Lombardia, thus gaining the opportunity to participate in the National Innovation Award – Premio Nazionale per l’Innovazione.
INSIGHT, designed by Chiara Lena and Luca Carlini, Ph.D. students in Bioengineering at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering – Politecnico di Milano, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Elena De Momi, aims to revolutionise colonoscopy procedures. Thanks to the technology under development, the project allows for a three-dimensional reconstruction of the examined mucosa, enabling the identification and analysis of previously uninspected areas. The aim is to improve the quality of colonoscopies, thereby increasing diagnostic accuracy and contributing to a reduction in the incidence of colorectal cancer.
The INSIGHT team also includes Davide Milesi, a research fellow at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of Politecnico di Milano, Alessandro Casella, who obtained his Ph.D. in Bioengineering at Politecnico di Milano in 2023, and two clinical experts from the IRCCS Humanitas Research Hospital in Rozzano (MI), Marco Spadaccini and Prof. Cesare Hassan.
Startcup Lombardia is a regional contest that promotes and supports the birth of innovative start-ups through the competition of business ideas in strategic sectors. The winners gain access to training, mentoring and funding, as well as direct access to the National Innovation Award – Premio Nazionale per l’Innovazione, Italy's largest competition dedicated to innovation and technology transfer, which brings together the best start-ups born within the country's universities and research centres.
With this recognition, INSIGHT will now have the opportunity to compete on a national level, consolidating its visibility and growth possibilities in the market.
