Second Place for Usevalad Milasheuski at the Global Huawei ICT Competition

Abstract
Usevalad Milasheuski, student in the Data Analytics and Decision Sciences Ph.D. Programme at Politecnico di Milano, has won the second prize at the Cloud Track of the Global Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024, an international competition with more than 170,000 students from over 2,000 colleges and universities across over 80 countries and regions worldwide.
The finals consisted in an 8-hour comprehensive practical scenario-based exam involving hands-on labs, where competitors had to demonstrate their skills by solving real-world cloud computing challenges. The competition also involved the participants in various activities such as the visits to Huawei Xi Liu Bei Po Cun and Exhibition Halls, keynote speeches and roundtable discussions with industry experts and peers.
The team, representing Italy in the international competition, was composed by Usevalad Milasheuski, Luc-Gabin Tekam Lapa and Selim Ucar, and was supported by Huawei Enterprise Italia and K Labs was already awarded the first prize of the Europe Regional Finals, in Istanbul on April 25, 2024.
Dr. Milasheuski is currently at the second year of the Data Analytics and Decision Sciences Ph.D. programme at Politecnico di Milano, with a thesis on federated learning in communication networks, under the supervision of Prof. Monica Nicoli (Department of of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering) and in cooperation with Dr. Stefano Savazzi (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche).
