The kick-off meeting of the SENSING NET project took place on April 19th, 2023 in Rome. The project involves the Optical Communications research group and the PoliCom laboratory of the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano together with the Politecnico di Torino, Open Fiber and Wind Tre.
The SENSING NET research project is part of the RESTART programme, funded by the NRPP through the European intervention plan NextGenerationEU. The project will use the already deployed Italian optical fiber telecommunications network as a sensor to monitor our cities and our territory in a pervasive and smart way.
Innovative fiber optic solutions will be analysed and tested to monitor the stability of buildings connected with FTTH technology and the safety and integrity of roads, railways and the infrastructure itself. Furthermore, the deployed fiber network will be used to monitor possible seismic.
