A team of students from the Master of Science in Automation & Control Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano, consisting of Simone Dassi, Sofia Guerra, Isabella Lanzani and Federico Pirillo, participated in the Grinding Plant Control Challenge 2022, winning third place.
The competition was part of the 19th IFAC Symposium on Control, Optimization and Automation in Mining, Mineral and Metal Processing, held in Montreal, Canada from 15 to 17 August 2022. The goal of the challenge was to ensure the proper functioning of a grinding plant for 50 hours, respecting some constraints concerning the pressure and level of the tank and optimizing a quality parameter having to do with the granularity of the compound leaving the plant.
12 teams took part in the competition, 10 of which made up of graduates, for a total of 34 participants from 5 different countries: Canada, South Africa, Italy, Brazil and China.
