Abstract
On Friday, October 30th, 2026, we will have a new talk for the series #NECSTFridayTalk.During this talk, we will have, as speaker, Laura Ginestretti, PhD student at Humanitas University.
We usually measure mental state in the lab or with occasional questionnaires: snapshots, often confined to a single domain. Yet stress, mood and cognition do not live in isolation. They emerge from the whole person, from sleep, movement, physiology and context, and they change continuously in daily life. Looking only at point-in-time data, in controlled settings, limits what we can understand and predict. Wearable data collected in ecological, free-living conditions can therefore capture this complexity, laying the basis for systems that track mental state over time. Such systems can serve both clinically, as digital biomarkers, and as personalised, tailored interventions. This talk presents the data collections carried out so far and the preliminary results obtained, as first steps toward an AI that reads the mind outside the laboratory settings.
The NECSTLab is a DEIB laboratory, with different research lines on advanced topics in computing systems: from architectural characteristics, to hardware-software codesign methodologies, to security and dependability issues of complex system architectures.

Every week, the “NECSTFridayTalk” invites researchers, professionals or entrepreneurs to share their work experiences and projects they are implementing in the “Computing Systems”.
