Abstract
On
May 25th, 2026, at 2:30 pm the seminar on "
Single Outlier Detector Enhancement Technology" will take place in DEIB “Schiavoni” Room (Building 20A).
This talk introduces recent technological advancements in single outlier detector enhancement, a novel approach distinct from traditional ensemble-based methods that improve multiple detectors simultaneously. The presentation will highlight key techniques and insights aimed at improving the performance and robustness of individual outlier detectors.
Short Bio
Dr. Jiawei Yang is a Senior Member of the IEEE, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow (EU), and a DAAD AI-Net Fellow (Germany). He was a visiting scholar at several prominent European research centers, including ETH Zürich, TU Berlin, and other laboratories affiliated with ELLIS. He brings valuable industry experience from Alibaba Group and other leading technology companies and currently serves as a Senior Researcher at the University of Turku, Finland. His research focuses on outlier detection and AI for health, with particular emphasis on developing outlier detector enhancement methods and enabling early disease diagnosis through wearable devices. Some of his research outcomes have been successfully commercialized by Alibaba Group and adopted by researchers from leading companies such as Alibaba and Tencent. He leads one EU-funded project and contributes to two others. He has authored nearly 30 publications in top-tier venues, including IEEE TKDE, IEEE TAFFC, and others. He is also an active contributor to the research community, serving as a reviewer for more than 20 premier journals and conferences.
