Abstract

On Friday, October 31, 2025, at 5:30 p.m., in the Aula De Donato at the Politecnico di Milano, Prof. Stefano Ceri from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering will deliver his farewell lecture on the occasion of his retirement — a special moment to reflect on an outstanding academic and scientific career.

During the lecture, Prof. Ceri will offer a reflection on the evolution of computer science from the 1980s to the present day, intertwining his personal journey with the broader history of the discipline. His talk will revolve around two main themes: the evolution of database technologies on one hand, and the various applications of data science across different research domains on the other.

Drawing on these experiences, Prof. Ceri will also present several educational models that leverage data science, and share personal reflections on his “transition” from technology to applications — a path shaped by numerous projects and collaborations, including his two ERC grants and his involvement with the Alta Scuola Politecnica.

This event offers an opportunity to celebrate Prof. Ceri’s significant contributions to research and education in computer science, as well as to reflect on the ongoing evolution of a discipline that continues to transform both academia and society.
