Abstract
On June 20th, 2023 at 11.30 am Andrea Toreti, senior scientist at the European Commission Joint Research Centre, will give a seminar on "Concurrent climate extremes: impacts and adaptation" in DEIB Alario Room (Building 21).The increase in frequency and intensity of climate extremes poses a threat for all key socio-economic sectors as well as the ecosystems. The emergence of concurrent extremes and compound events has shown the limitations of current approaches to characterize risk, design and test sustainable adaptation strategies. New tools are needed to deal with such complexity, including the cascading effects and the shocks concurrent extremes may induce. Challenges, emerging ideas as well as recent efforts in developing new methodological and modelling approaches will be discussed.
