Abstract
On April 28th, 2023 at 11.00 am Prabhat Kumar Upadhyay, Full Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, in the Indian Institute of Technology, Indore (India), will give a seminar on "Spectral and Energy Efficient Techniques for Future-Generation Wireless Networks – A Retrospective Assessment" in DEIB Conference Room.Internet of Things (IoT) envisions the deployment of various remote sensing and smart city applications by facilitating pervasive and ubiquitous interconnection of numerous physical devices and sensor nodes. With the enormously increasing number of the IoT devices and high data rate services, the design and implementation of IoT networks will have to encounter three major problems i.e., spectrum scarcity, energy limitation, and security vulnerabilities. This motivates the development of cognitive IoT networks to meet IoT requirements in the 5G/6G era. The wireless techniques used for improving spectral efficiency often lead to decrease in energy efficiency and vice-versa. Therefore, a careful design for future wireless networks is desirable in view of both energy and spectral efficiency. Moreover, owing to the broadcast nature of the medium and the associated security vulnerabilities, it is important to augment secrecy even at the physical layer of communications. Such developments will not only help in accommodating the increasing demand of information delivery, but also in reducing the operating expenditure of mobile operators, while protecting the environment and preserving the natural resources.
