On July 19th, 2022 at 11.00 am, Matteo Di Giancamillo will hold a seminar on "Superconducting Nanowire: advancement and challenges for single-photon detection" in DEIB BIO2 Room.

Single photon detectors are a fundamental pivot technology for realizing the potential of quantum photonic systems. They have achieved increasing interest over the years for different reasons which can be sum up with a single sentence: they simply outperform the modern semiconductor single-photon detection technologies. This seminar is a brief review about their progress and opportunities, underlining the remaining challenges that are awaiting to be addressed.

Matteo Di Giancamillo received the B.Sc and M.Sc in physics engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2018 and 2021 respectively. He is currently a PhD student at the Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria, in the telecommunications area. His research interest includes the design and engineering of quantum key distribution system, and it is mainly focused to the use of spontaneous parametric down conversion sources as single photon sources, both in entangled and heralded mode.
