Communication networks and computing have significantly changed our approach to life. In this seminar, we will focus on the forthcoming mobile network, 5G, and on its impact on society. Such technology is enabled by the cooperation between networks and computers, which are nowadays a portal interconnecting the digital and physical world. Through this portal, we can acquire information from the physical world, elaborate them in the digital world, and use the results for new purposes both in the digital and physical world. Thus, the distinction between these two worlds is disappearing.
Working in this new context as an engineer means acquiring polyhedral knowledge and experience from many different domains, from ethics to electronics, from mathematics to programming, from physics to multi-cultural organizations.
We will touch on some of these aspects starting from our specific experience and giving some highlights on the future of 5G and, most important, on a possible future for young engineers and researchers embarking on this endeavor.
