Sebastian is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering at Politecnico di Milano (Italy) and a Fulbright Fellow at the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, University of Texas at Dallas (USA). He received his Ph.D. in Information Technology (Telecommunications) cum laude from Politecnico di Milano in 2020. He joined the faculty in 2022 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2026. He is also a partner at SWAN Networks, a spin-off of Politecnico di Milano. His research focuses on edge network softwarization and the application of artificial intelligence to communication networks, with an emphasis on intelligent control and orchestration for SDN and SD-WAN in multi-layer networks. He has contributed to several National and European projects, including H2020 Metro-Haul and NGI Atlantic, and served as an editor for the ITU Focus Group on Machine Learning for Future Networks (FG-ML5G). He has authored over 80 publications in leading international venues and is actively involved in the research community, serving as reviewer, TPC member for major IEEE conferences, and organizer of several events, including the Edge Network Softwarization (ENS) workshop series. In 2025, he received the IEEE ComSoc EMEA Outstanding Young Researcher Award.
