Pietro Cerveri (1994, MSc. Electronics Engineering; 2001, PhD Bioengineering) is Associate Professor at Politecnico di Milano. He was research fellow at Neuroscience and Bioimages Institute of the National Council of Research (CNR) (1997-98), research fellow at European Institute of Oncology (2000-2001), research fellow at Fondazione Pro Juventute Don Gnocchi (2001-2003), post-doc at Bioengineering Department, Politecnico di Milano (2004-2006), research scientist at National Center of Oncologic Hadron-therapy (CNAO, Pave, Italy) (2012-present). He was Lecturer of Cognitive System Engineering (2004 to 2009) and Reader of NeuroEngineering (2009-present) in Biomedical Engineering (Politecnico di Milano). He spent research periods abroad in 1998 at the National Institute of Health, Bethesda MD, USA, as Research Scientist, in 2003 and 2010 at Universita Estadual de Campinas, Campinas BR as Visiting Professor, and in 2000 at Electronic Arts, Vancouver CA, as Software Engineer. His research activities are mainly about Human motion analysis and modeling, Computer Vision, Knowledge Representation, Computer Assisted and Robotics Surgery, Medical Signal/Image Processing and Analysis. He is author/co-author of more than 70 scientific papers published on ISI journals, more than 50 contributes on International Conference Proceedings, and two international patent applications. In 2008, he was awarded with “Best Innovation Award” at K-Idea – Scientific technological park Kilometro Rosso for “Robotic technologies for the vision in mini-invasive transluminal endoscopic surgery” (Bergamo - Italy). He has participated in several research and industrial projects on national and international scale. One of the main achievements consisted in the development of an in-room robotic platform for image-based patient positioning verification, under a National grant, that has been adopted in clinical practice at National Center of Oncologic Hadron-therapy since 2012.
